Congratulations to GenWest's Resilient Communities Team and partners for taking home two awards recently - Resilient Australia's National Local Government Award and Resilient Australia's National Collaboration Partnership Award. Both awards were for The Maribyrnong Insurance Project: Empowering communities to navigate flood insurance.
Created in partnership with Maribyrnong City Council, GenWest and the Maribyrnong Community Recovery Committee, this community-led project makes complex flood insurance information clear, accessible and culturally inclusive.
The Maribyrnong Insurance Project responded to the needs of multicultural communities and others who find insurance difficult to access following the devastating October 2022 floods. The project has supported many households navigating long, traumatic insurance and rebuild journeys.
Huge congratulations to everyone involved - community members, flood-affected residents and our collaborators across cohealth, Consumer Action Law Centre, Disaster Legal Help Victoria, Financial Counselling Victoria (FCVic), Australian Red Cross and Westjustice.
