GenWest’s Barkly Street office was delighted to welcome Community Champions from GenWest’s Project Sitara for an office tour on Tuesday, 16th September.

Project Sitara's Community Champions – otherwise known as Sitaras (Sitara meaning ‘star’ in Hindi) – came to see how GenWest’s family violence response and prevention services operate, as part of their ongoing Community of Practice.
The visit was also an opportunity for Community Champions to share their experience and be recognised for the work they do. Through Project Sitara, Community Champions learned new skills to respond and refer victim-survivors of family violence to professional services in their local communities. The project is delivered in Hindi and mixes primary prevention evidence, with contemporary Indian popular culture, and lived experience. This approach supports deeper cross-cultural understandings of how to prevent and respond to gender-based violence in meaningful ways.
During the visit, Community Champions sat down with GenWest’s CEO, Dale Wakefield and General Manager, Kate Wait. All meaningfully reflected on the deep value of Project Sitara for the sector and for Community Champions in their personal lives and communities.
Thank you to Project Sitara’s Community Champions for their contributions, time, and energy – not only on this day, but every day.
Congratulations to the Multilingual Health Education team, Shikha, Nilaufer, and Shweta – who developed, deliver, and sustain this important project.
