GenWest and Jesuit Social Services Partner on the Working Together: Strengthening Family and Sexual Violence Support with Multicultural Communities Program
GenWest and Jesuit Social Services have been awarded funding through the Working Together partnership program—an initiative that supports collaborations between multicultural community organisations and specialist family and/or sexual violence services.
Through this partnership, GenWest and Jesuit Social Services will deliver a community and sector capacity-building project focused on increasing awareness of family violence and reducing its impacts within Horn of Africa communities in Melbourne’s west, specifically the Somali, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Sudanese, and South Sudanese communities.
This work builds on strong existing community relationships and clearly identified needs, aiming to foster safer, more informed communities through a culturally responsive and collaborative approach.
The partnership will include the recruitment of a Capacity Building Practitioner for two years, co-located at GenWest, to:
- Increase awareness of family violence and available supports within the identified communities in Melbourne’s West to encourage early identification and help seeking; and
- Facilitate bi-directional learning between services to provide an integrated, enhanced service response.
The practitioner will be embedded into GenWest’s Resilient Communities team, strengthening support for multicultural communities in Melbourne’s west.
