We support local communities to help improve climate resilience and disaster preparedness in Melbourne’s West.
We focus on supporting refugee and migrant women and their families by adequately preparing for climate change and future disasters.
What is our goal?
Our work in Melbourne’s West is funded by the Greater Melbourne Foundation to:
- Enhance Community Resilience: Strengthen social cohesion, financial stability, and healthy communities.
- Empower community members: Equip community members with the knowledge and confidence to self-advocate for their rights and needs related to climate adaptation and disaster preparedness.
- Influence Policy Change: Increase gendered and culturally responsive approaches to disaster management.
How do we do this?
We will focus on local migrant and refugee communities to help improve climate resilience and disaster preparedness in Melbourne’s West by
- Understanding existing knowledge of disaster and identify preparedness gaps
- Delivering community events and activities based on local community needs
- Amplifying community voices on climate adaptation and preparedness needs at local and state government levels
