Our next training for 3Rs is:
Identifying Family Violence: 3Rs - Recognise, Respond, Refer
Identifying Family Violence: 3Rs is an evidence-based survivor-centred specialist training that equips participants with the knowledge and skills on how to best support those experiencing family violence.
Violence against women is the single biggest risk factor contributing to disease burden; more than smoking, drinking or obesity (DSS, 2022). The western metropolitan region of Melbourne experiences some of the highest high levels of family violence in Victoria intersected by various types of disadvantage and inequality. The community plays an important role in supporting victim/survivors of family violence to seek help.
The training addresses:
- The drivers of violence against women and children
- The link between gender inequality and family violence
- How to identify family violence, respond in trauma-informed ways to victim-survivors, and find family violence services for support and referral
- And how to engage in conversations that challenge community attitudes that reinforce gender inequality and violence
100% of participants who completed the survey told us their confidence to recognise, respond and refer to disclosures of family violence had increased following the training.
3Rs training participants shared:
- ‘We were gently guided through a very serious and sad subject and given a great toolkit for responding and referring victims.’
- ‘The chance to network with other staff. The opportunity to have a relevant local service present to us.’
- ‘I liked the theory and understanding about drivers and other factors that are linked, and the discussion around intersectionality. I really liked the case study, I thought it was great to talk about lots of different aspects that may be impacting someone experiencing family violence.’
- ‘I thought it was excellent training.’
