Family Violence, Prevention and Response is an evidence-based, survivor-centred specialist training. It equips participants with the knowledge and skills on how to best support those experiencing family violence.
Violence against women is the single biggest risk factor contributing to disease burden; more than smoking, drinking or obesity (DSS, 2022). The western metropolitan region of Melbourne experiences some of the highest high levels of family violence in Victoria intersected by various types of disadvantage and inequality. The community plays an important role in supporting victim/survivors of family violence to seek help.
This training covers:
- What family violence is and what causes it
- The link between gender inequality and family violence
- How we can prevent family violence
- Identifying family violence in the community
- How to respond to someone who is experiencing family violence in trauma informed way
- Referral options and how assist people experiencing family violence to get expert support
